How to Efficiently Lose Weight

Everybody knows that the most essential steps toward successful weight loss include exercise and a good diet. While those are still important, a lot of people don't realize that it's so easy to lose and keep weight off by making little lifestyle changes that don't require a lot of effort.

First, drinking lots of water or other calorie-free beverages is important. Before feasting on that bag of chips or cookies, drink a glass or two of water. Hunger is often confused with thirst and can result in extra, unnecessary calorie consumption when all you needed was a glass of water. If you're not a fan of regular water, try drinking some tea or sparkling water infused with fruit. Be picky with nighttime snacks, too. Snacking in front of the TV is one of the quickest ways to mess up your diet. Try closing down the kitchen at a certain time during the evening or let yourself have a low-calorie snack such as some fruit or a small scoop of low-fat ice cream. This may also help you sleep better at night, and a good night's rest is helpful in weight loss.

Moderation is absolutely key. Instead of completely getting rid of your favorite foods, be a smart shopper--don't buy a whole box of cookies, just buy individual packs as treats (not meals.) Eat several mini-meals throughout your day. Studies have shown that people who eat 4-5 meals a day have an easier time controlling their weight and appetite. Try ordering kids meals at restaurants to lessen your portions, and consume protein at every meal. Give your food a boost by using herbs and spices to kick up the flavor. That way, your taste buds are stimulated so you won't eat as much.

With these simple steps, you'll be feeling refreshed and healthy in no time!
